Time to give back

James “ Jay Striker” Barnett served in the U.S. Army from 1991-2003 and worked alongside the most elite forces in the U.S. military to include the 82nd and the 101st Airborne Divisions, U.S. Army Rangers, Special Forces and many joint task forces around the world; this is where Jay earned the nickname “Jay Striker”. Upon completing his service in the military Jay went on to serve his community as a Police Officer for the Dekalb County Police Department, In the Greater Atlanta Area. Serving for many years as a police officer Jay has an inherent instinct to want to serve his country and community.

Jay has worn many hats during his tenure and now as a professional bass angler his new calling wants to give back to the two professions in which he served honorably. His new mission is to provide an open outdoor platform for the men and women who serve in the armed forces and law enforcement communities a way to step outside the Rank and Badge and relax and share their stories while fishing with Jay on the lakes and rivers in which the Veterans’ and LEO’s also love.

One primary reason for the outreach to our Law Enforcement Officer (LEO’s) and Veterans (VET’s) is that both professions have a high rate of prestige and responsibility unfortunately a high level of need for counseling and treatments for PTSD one of the leading cause of both professions making the ultimate sacrifice at their own hands; with Vet’s (20+) a day and LEO’s (9) a month.

Reducing these numbers is a goal Jay hopes to accomplish with his project “On Deck” Fishing with LEO’s and VET's. He feels that the outstanding opportunity to reach out to our heroes' and the importance of hearing their stories. On the water, they will discuss the tough times; good times; both happy and sad. While giving the LEO’s and the VET’s the opportunity to open up; and let their community know that they have real lives and struggles as we all do and why they chose their professions and still do it today.
